Does it matter who is elected president?

ANSWER: I understand where your question is coming from, but we must remember to consider the entire counsel of God. This Scripture refers to the sovereignty of God.  It is absolutely true that God has unlimited and unconditional power and authority.

It is equally true that God created us as free moral agents; all of us. If He begins to tinker with our free will then we are no longer accountable for our actions and the intricacy and the harmony of Scripture is no longer in tact.

There are things in the plan of God that WILL happen. In Genesis 41 Pharaoh dreams a dream and in Joseph’s interpretation he says, “…the dream was doubled…because the thing is established by God…” (v.32). In other words, the famine was coming no matter what the response was. In the case of Nineveh, the outcome was not established. Jonah 3:5 records that the people of Nineveh turned from their evil ways and God did not do what He had planned on doing (v.10).

When God called Moses to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt, Pharaoh would not consent. But God broke his will through the ten plagues. At EVERY turn Pharaoh could have submitted. God turned his heart by external prodding. He never altered or manipulated his free will.

Therefore I do believe that it matters who we elect. As Christians we are stewards of the rights and privileges  entrusted to us. We want to use those in a way that is pleasing to God. We ALL have an obligation to vote. Men and women from every generation have put their lives on the line to preserve that right for us.

“Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a  reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). Without free will, this Scripture is null and void.
