Why did God create sex when it just seems to cause so many problems?

ANSWER: Sexual desire and sexual relations are not the problem; the misuse of what God designed for good is the problem.

I understand your question; sex seems to be at the core of so many of our struggles as a society. From pornography, teen pregnancy, adultery and broken lives and marriages, sexual predators and offenders of every sort … to our nations       insatiable obsession with promoting and feeding the sexual desires of a people who dwell far from the heart of God.

The problem however is not God’s creation, it is our sin. Sexual desire, like fire, can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Used according to God’s plan and purpose, sex is a wonderful thing. Misused or perverted and it becomes a devastating source of pain in the lives of those caught in its unrelenting and far reaching grasp.

But as to WHY God created sex, here are three reasons;

• To procreate; to perpetuate the human race (have kids).
• To be the ultimate expression of love between a husband and a wife.
• For pleasure and intimacy in marriage.

When we are sexually active outside of the marriage relationship we suffer because God did not design sex to occur outside of marriage. “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled…” (Hebrews 13:4). Many who have been sexually active discovered later on that God knew what He was doing; His plan was filled with wisdom and foresight.

Scripture teaches us to walk in the Spirit while the world wants us to revert back to the arm of the flesh. The Devil has a much easier sell than the Word of God. The Devil gives it all to you now; but you pay dearly down the line. God’s plan requires discipline and self control, but the reward is great.

God created sex to be a blessing to all who trust Him and use it according to His plan and purposes; it is when we get outside of the parameters He has laid out that we experience the pain you describe.
