Can demons hurt Christians?
I do believe demons exist and that they have power, although they are limited.
Scripture seems to indicate that they can physically hurt Christians if God allows them to. Read the first two chapters of Job. Demonic powers are allowed to cause problems for Job, but they must ask God for permission. God seems to give consent on a limited basis. Note how the demonic forces can go only as far as God permits them. This clearly indicates that they are subject to God.
There are other times when we make poor decisions that give Satan legal right to wreak havoc in our lives. Grave consequences often follow our sin.
Matthew 10:28 says “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul,” (This is a reference to Satan and demons), “…but rather fear Him (God) which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” This indicates Satan can inflict limited harm on our bodies, but we ought to be more concerned about being right with God because He has the power to condemn us to eternal death.
1 Corinthians 10:13 says that God will not allow any trial to come our way that is beyond our ability to handle. I believe that every trial we go through filters through the hand of God...the great refiner. We need not fear the devil or demons. Perhaps the Apostle Paul said it best, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
