What about people who never have a chance to hear about Jesus, can they be saved?

This is a great question that many avoid because the answer challenges our doctrine and can make us uncomfortable. Let me answer by quoting from the Apostle Paul in his writing to the Romans; "For when the gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves. Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness..."  (Romans 2:12-15a).

The word conscience has two parts. con = with; science = knowledge. Conscience means "with knowledge."

God judges on the basis of light received. He will not hold anyone accountable for something they never had an opportunity to accept. This will be abrasive to many, yet the same people would have no problem accepting as fact that aborted babies or small children who die would be covered by the blood of Jesus.

Romans 1:20 says that "The invisible things of Him (God) from the creation of the world are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse."

God has given every man general revelation through His marvelous creation and the moral law written on his heart. The Psalmist wrote, "The heavens declare the glory of God..."   (Psalm 19:1). Man can look into the sky and know that there is something beyond. There is creator God to be worshiped. If he worships the creation, he is an idolator.

On the other hand, "...unto whomsoever much is given, of him, shall much be required..."  (Luke 12:48). You and I have been blessed with much information and great opportunity. We will be held accountable for many blessings such as the Word of God preached and more Bibles than we know what to do with. To us, much has been given. We are responsible to be leaders in carrying the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the world where the light of the Gospel has yet to shine in all it’s brilliance.

No one will be condemned to eternity in Hell without deserving to be there. I am very comfortable knowing God is Judge. Our God knows the end from the beginning. He knows what people would have done had they been given more light. Our part is to do the best we can with what we have been entrusted with.

I hope this has answered your question.

God Bless You,
